Video game research company DFC Intelligence says the worldwide market for portable and mobile games is likely to hit $11.7 billion (around £7 billion) by 2014. Most of this growth will be driven by gaming on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch; by 2014, about 24% of all portable game software sales will be for the iPhone or iPod Touch.
DFC says dedicated portable game systems will still lead the market but most new growth will come from Apple devices. It also said 69% of respondents in Europe had played a game on their mobile phone in the past year, while 36% had paid to purchase an application for their mobile phone. [DFC blog]
