Carphone Warehouse gets UK exclusive for LG Optimus 3D launch

The LG Optimus 3D will launch exclusively at The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy this spring. It’ll later be available to other UK retailers.

The phone, which was announced at Mobile World Congress in February, has an auto-stereoscopic 4.3-inch display that avoids the need for 3D glasses. It can also record 3D video through a pair of 5-megapixel lenses on the back.

Graham Stapleton, Chief Commercial Officer at The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy, said “The LG Optimus 3D handset is one of the most important and technologically advanced handset releases of the year. With an industry first of 3D capture and playback, without the need for glasses, and dual core technology for multitasking, this handset provides a new and altogether stunning experience wherever you are. We are very pleased to be the exclusive launch partner for the LG Optimus 3D and look forward to the successful launch across our Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy stores.”

I'm glad more info on this phone's arrival is coming through. I'm due an upgrade from my Samsung i8910 hd in April, but will wait for the LG Optimus 3D. Seems a great piece of kit although it's a shame it's a bit fat.

I'm also due to upgrade from a Samsung I8910 HD later this year, and I'm currently torn between the LG Optimus HD and the Samsung Galaxy S II.

The former has a 3D display and the ability to record in 3D (as per the article above), but the latter has an 8MP camera (same as the I8910 HD) and a Super AMOLED+ screen (or whatever moniker Samsung have given their latest iteration).

Anyone got any advice as to which of the two to go for, and why? I think I'm currently erring towards the Samsung, as I love the 8MP camera and the screen on the I8910 HD (which is 'only' AMOLED). A 3D display does sound tempting, although it could be about as well-supported as the accelerometer on the LG KF750...
