Casio announces Android-based EPOS terminal for retailers

Casio has announced the VX-100 business support terminal; an Electronic Point-of-Sale (EPOS) terminal that includes a touch-controlled display and a built-in printer. Most notably, it runs version 2.2 of the Android operating system.

The VX-100 is designed for small and medium-sized retail stores, either as a standalone device or as part of a networked system. It’s expected to begin shipping in December 2011. An optional cash drawer enables the VX100 to function as a complete cash register, while ‘remote control by email’ will enable data to be interrogated remotely.

In addition to creating the VX-100 EPOS terminal, Casio is also providing a software development kit and plans to develop its own additional applications.
