Lord's, the London cricket ground owned by Marylebone Cricket Club, is to offer its visitors free WiFi access. A five-year deal has been agreed between the MCC and WiFi provider The Cloud.
Free public WiFi will be available in the media centre, in hospitality areas, in the ‘Food Village’ and around all public bars. The MCC will also look at the option of providing free WiFi in every stand.
Derek Brewer, Chief Executive and Secretary of the MCC, said “The availability of high speed WiFi adds to the experience of visiting Lord’s. Spectators spend a whole day with us, so having secure access to the internet means that they can post photos and videos of their experience, as well as keeping up to speed with commentary and analysis of the match online. The service is also ideal for email access, general web surfing, social networking and media streaming.”
In the last six months, The Cloud has seen the amount of traffic on its network double to well over 100 million minutes a week. The company, which is owned by BSkyB, currently provides WiFi to over 11,000 hotspot locations.
