eBay acquires RedLaser mobile barcode application and sets it free

eBay has acquired the RedLaser barcode-scanning application, which lets iPhone users identify products and find online information – including prices - simply by scanning the product barcode.

RedLaser was previously a chargeable app. It's now been turned into a free application, which is likely to see a dramatic increase in the number of downloads. The paid version had been downloaded over two million times.

eBay says it'll add products by incorporating eBay listings and products from over 7,000 retailers on Shopping.com. In addition, the eBay Selling application for the iPhone will take advantage of RedLaser’s barcode-scanning technology for mobile users to sell items online.
