Facebook tops US app survey

Research company Nielsen has published some results from its ‘App Playbook’, which surveyed more than 4,200 people in the USA who'd downloaded an application in the previous 30 days.

It says 14% of mobile phone subscribers had downloaded an application in the previous 30 days, with the average smartphone user accommodating 22 apps on their handset. Feature phone users have an average 10 apps on their phones.

Facebook, Google Maps and the Weather Channel are the most popular apps across all smartphones, although iTunes is (perhaps unsurprisingly) in the top three for iPhone users. Paid and free games is the most popular app category.
