Research from Nielsen says games are (still) the most popular app category, with 64% of app downloaders having used them in the last month. Next were weather apps, followed by social networking.
The survey contacted people in the USA who’d downloaded an app in the previous 30 days.
Most app users were happy to pay for games, with 93% of respondents saying they’re willing to pay. Entertainment came second, with 87% of people ready to pay.
Gamers using iPhones were found to spend almost twice as much time playing games as the average mobile gamer, taking 14.7 hours per month. Android users - in second place - were also above average, spending 9.3 hours per month playing games.
