Google Maps brings mobile cycling directions to the UK

Google has added biking directions to the Android version of its maps application in the UK, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. It enables bicycle riders to benefit from voice-guided navigation on roads and cycle lanes, with the option of avoiding steep hills where possible.

Dark green lines on the map show dedicated bike trails and other car-free paths, while light green lines show cycle lanes. More than 330,000 miles of cycle-friendly routes are currently shown.

Cycle directions were added to Google Maps in the US and Canada in 2010.
