The GSMA has announced the winners of its Mobile App Challenges competitions. The Brand App Challenge, the Band App Audition and the mWomen Base of Pyramid App Challenge were aimed at the developer community, with winners being chosen for their creativity as well as their ability to address the criteria set by the Challenge partners.
Women in developing countries were targeted in the Vodafone-sponsored mWomen Base of the Pyramid Apps Challenge. Winner of the ‘feature phone’ category was NextDrop, which alerted users when an intermittent water supply was available. The smartphone category was won by TiendaTek, enabling small businesses to manage transactions and suppliers using an Android smartphone and a barcode reader.
Other challenges included developing apps for the Coca-Cola brand and for music artists.
Michael O'Hara, chief marketing officer of the GSMA, said “There were some fantastic apps submitted across all three Mobile App Challenges and these winners truly represent the most creative and innovative developer minds. We are delighted to be able to work with such forward-thinking partners and sponsors who value and realise the power of mobile.”
