HTC reports a quarterly loss while Samsung anticipates record profits

The latest set of unaudited financial results from HTC Corporation show a quarterly loss for the first time ever. Figures for the third quarter of 2013 indicate a net loss after tax of NT$2.97 billion (£63 million), an operating loss of NT$3.50 billion (£74.3 million) and total revenue of NT$47.05 billion (£998.8 million).

HTC had already warned that the Q3 2013 figures could show a loss.

Meanwhile Samsung has published interim results for its July-September quarter.

It’s anticipating sales of approximately 59 trillion South Korean Won (£34.2 billion) and operating profit of approximately 10.1 trillion Won (£5.9 billion), which would be a new high for the company.

Formal results announcements from both companies are expected in the next few weeks.
