Instagram launches video option to rival Vine

Mobile-based photo sharing service Instagram has launched an option to share video clips as well. The service, which was acquired by Facebook last year, now lets users with its Apple or Android apps share up to fifteen seconds of video.

As with Instagram’s original photo app, users can transform their images with a choice of filters.

In a blog post, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom said “Nothing’s different from photos. We’re still committed to making sure you have control over all of your content. Only the people who you let see your photos will be able to see your videos. And as with photos, you own your videos.”

The new Instagram video service is seen as a rival to Vine, which was launched by Twitter earlier this year. Vine allows users to capture six-second video clips that constantly repeat when they play back.
