iPhone 4 revealed at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference

iPhone 4After a number of uncharacteristic leaks from Apple’s product development organisation, the newest Apple iPhone was officially announced by Steve Jobs this evening. It’s called the iPhone 4 and will be on sale in the UK and USA from 24th June. In addition, an 8GB iPhone 3GS model will go on sale at the same time.

New features on the iPhone 4 include

- a 960 x 640 pixel 3.5-inch display, which Apple is calling its ‘Retina display’,
- video calling via WiFi, which Apple is calling FaceTime,
- a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash,
- HD video recording,
- Apple’s ‘A4’ processor, similar to the one found in the iPad,
- a new kind of accelerometer that works in 3D,
- better battery life, and
- a new chemically-strengthened glass & stainless steel design that’s just 9.3mm thick.

It’ll come with version 4 of the iPhone operating system – now called iOS 4 – which was revealed in April.
