A tax on text messages is being considered by the Irish government, according to a report in the Irish Times. Green Party deputy leader Mary White proposed a one Euro cent tax on text messages last week, calculating that it could raise €146 million. The Irish Cellular Industry Association said a additional tax on text messages was no more logical than a tax on cups of tea, pointing out that that consumers already pay 21.5% VAT on calls and SMS messages.
