Jury decides Samsung owes Apple another $290 million for patent infringement

A jury in the USA has decided that Samsung needs to pay Apple $290 million (£179 million) for infringing patents related to its iPhone and iPad products.

Last year a jury said Samsung had to pay $1.05 billion, although a judge later ruled that the jury had miscalculated. As a result, a lower figure of $550 million was set and this new trial was ordered.

Apple had claimed $380 million whilst Samsung said it owed $52 million.

A separate trial relating to current Samsung devices is due next year.
