Last.fm to make mobile listening a subscription-only service for most UK users

Online music service Last.fm is introducing a subscription charge for listening to its ‘Last.fm Radio’ streaming music service on most UK mobile phones, including Android and iPhone devices. Mobile scrobbling - automatically logging the music you play - will remain free, as will access to recommendations and forums.

In addition, UK users of Windows Mobile 7 phones will enjoy free access throughout 2011.

The news follows a 2009 announcement that introduced subscription charges in all markets except the UK, the USA and Germany. A subscription will be needed for mobile access to Last.fm Radio from 15th February, although some subscribers are being given free access for the first few months.

Access to Last.fm Radio will still be free via the Last.fm website.
