LG announces KizON, a wearable mobile phone for children

LG Electronics has announced a new child-friendly mobile phone that’ll be available in South Korea from tomorrow, with a launch in North America and Europe planned for later this year. The LG KizON is worn on a wrist band, allowing parents of pre-school and primary school children to track and call their offspring.

Parents can take advantage of GPS and WiFi in the KizON device to track their child via an Android app, while 2G and 3G connectivity lets the KizON receive calls from pre-configured numbers. Children can call a pre-programmed number from the device.

Wearables allow us to stay connected without the worry of losing a device or the inconvenience of having to carry a large item in a pocket. At LG, we’re committed to exploring more ways to incorporate wearable devices into consumers lives in line with our vision to become a leader in wearables.”

LG’s KizON will be a rival to the FiLIP watch, which won the award for best mobile-enabled consumer electronics device at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. FiLIP is currently being offered by AT&T in the USA.
