LG promises dual-core smartphones later this year

LG Electronics says it'll be using the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor in its Optimus Series smartphones later this year. The Tegra 2 promises to be the first mobile dual-core CPU available in a mobile phone, offering 1080p HD video playback, 3D graphics and up to 5x faster gaming performance over single core processors running at 1 GHz.

Chang Ma, Vice President of the Marketing Strategy Team at the LG Mobile Communications Company, said "LG is committed to making its Optimus Series smart devices the de facto standard in speed and graphics performance. We selected NVIDIA because it is the visual computing leader and has a long history of creating amazing consumer experiences."

The new LG Optimus devices are expected to run either Android or Windows Phone 7, although LG hasn't given any detailed information about its OS plans.
