Motorola has announced a global partnership with Microsoft to put Microsoft's Bing search and mapping services on Motorola's Android-powered phones. It's a largely unexpected move because Android is closely associated with Google, arguably Microsoft's biggest rival.

This new collaboration will first be seen on smartphones launched in China during the next few weeks. Consumers will see a Bing bookmark on their browser and a search widget with Bing integration.

Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services for Motorola Mobile Devices, said "We believe that consumer choice is one of the most critical components to ensuring a rich and seamless client experience. Motorola and Microsoft have enjoyed a longstanding collaboration and the addition of Bing services to our Android-based smartphones in China is another important step in empowering our end-users."
