Microsoft says Windows Phone 7.8 update will arrive in 2013

The launch of new Windows Phone 8 devices last month doesn’t mean that customers with older Windows Phone handsets have been neglected. Users running Windows Phone 7.5 on older devices, such as the Nokia Lumia 800, can’t update to version 8 but have previously been promised an interim update to version 7.8.

Microsoft has now said it’s aiming to get the Windows Phone 7.8 update rolled out in early 2013. In the next few weeks v7.8 will also be preinstalled on new phones that can’t support Windows Phone 8.

Windows Phone 7.8 brings the new-style ‘start’ screen to older devices, offering ‘Live Tiles’ that provide quick access to contacts and applications, and also adds some new security features.
