Mobile entertainment moves towards video and music subscriptions

Market research company GfK says the UK’s spending on mobile entertainment hasn’t changed much in the first quarter of 2009, although it’s noticed a number of new usage trends.

Its GfK Retail and Technology division reports that subscription-based video and music purchases are rising and now account for 40% of all mobile entertainment downloads. Trivia and word games are the most popular types of mobile games, with 27% of all sales, while bundled games have risen to 15% of revenue and ad-funded games now represent 2% of the download market.
