Mobile location-based service users growing by 37% annually

Berg Insight has calculated that the number of mobile location-based service users in Europe will grow from 20 million people in 2008 to reach 130 million users in 2014; that’s a compound annual growth rate of nearly 37%. Local search, navigation services and social networking are expected to become the most popular LBS applications. The company also estimates that over 20% of mobile handsets shipped in 2009 will feature GPS, resulting in over 50% of all European handsets being GPS-equipped by 2013. [Press release; report]
