Coming up with the next ‘killer feature’ for a mobile phone won’t make it a best-seller, according to a new report from market research company In-Stat. They say today’s consumer is looking for a collection of features on their ideal phone… and they want improved performance as well.
The Apple iPhone is cited as one of the reasons for this demand; as with the results of the recent JD Power survey, consumer awareness of advanced mobile features is leading to increased demand for them.
In-Stat says the ‘ideal mobile phone’ would include a camera, loudspeaker and GPS, with many buyers also looking for a large screen and a rugged casing. The number of devices with music and video capabilities is still rising year-on-year; the number of survey respondents with an MP3-playing mobile was up 17.3% from 2008 while the number of people with a video camera on their mobile was up 26.2%.
