Monthly mobile data traffic in 2014 will exceed last year’s total

We’ve recently had a couple of mobile data forecasts that have included some really big numbers. Coda Research said mobile traffic will be up 40-fold by 2017, while Cisco reckons it’ll be up 66-fold by 2013. Now comes ABI Research with a rather more modest 12-fold increase by 2014 – or, as they put it - the volume of mobile data sent and received every month by users around the world will exceed the total data traffic for all of 2008. Over 50% of that will come from computers with embedded 3G or 4G modems, and nearly three-quarters will be from internet access. 26% will come from audio and video streaming. [Press release]
