America’s Car and Driver magazine has compared reaction times between driving when drunk and when sending a text message. At 70 miles per hour, editor Eddie Alterman found that being drunk added 4 feet to his stopping distance, while reading email on a mobile added 36 feet and sending a text added 70 feet. Reaction times only differed by fractions of a second – but, at 103 feet per second, they made a significant different. [Sources: CarAndDriver.com; CNBC.com]
