Most people who haven’t bought an iPhone don’t want one!

Yes, that’s the (shocking) news from market research company The NPD Group... although, joking apart, it's a pretty close-run thing. 55% of consumers say “lack of interest” was their main reason for not buying an Apple iPhone, followed by “high price” at 42%. As NPD points out, Apple’s decision to cut the retail price of the current 3G device in the USA is likely to expand the potential market for the device.

One in five mobile phone owners say they want to purchase an iPhone but haven’t done so yet, with 18% blaming data costs and 21% blaming network exclusivity. [Press release]

On a similar note, FierceDeveloper.com notes a recent report that says 40% of non-iPhone smartphone users would choose an iPhone for their next purchase. www.fiercedeveloper.com/story/four-10-smartphone-users-would-switch-iphone/2009-06-22
