The United States International Trade Commission has ordered an import ban for certain Android-based Motorola Mobility devices. It follows a ruling that a number of Motorola mobile devices infringe a Microsoft patent for ‘generating meeting requests and group scheduling from a mobile device’. Nine patents were listed in the original complaint from October 2010.
The order is likely to be enforced in July unless the US president intervenes or Motorola modifies its devices.
Microsoft has previously noted that more than 70% of Android smartphones sold in the USA are covered by its patent portfolio.
