Motorola will split in early 2011

Motorola says it'll will split into two companies in early 2011. It's previously talked about turning its mobile operation into a separate company; the current plan is to combine mobile devices with digital TV set-top boxes in a consumer-focussed company, with enterprise mobility and networks combined as a corporate-facing company. Sanjay Jha, current co-CEO and head of mobile, will head the consumer side; Greg Brown, the other co-CEO, will be in charge of the business unit.

The news comes just days after specifications of a new Android-powered smartphone called the Motorola Split were leaked.
