MoZoop launches a free contact transfer service for mobile upgrades

A new service called MoZoop has been launched today by Nottingham-based business SMS provider Esendex. It offers to transfer contacts from an old mobile phone to a new handset 'over the air' and is free of charge (except for the mobile data used).

MoZoop uses SyncML technology, which is an information synchronisation standard used by many mobile phones. MoZoop users are sent a text message that automatically configures their phone for SyncML; they can then upload their contacts to MoZoop's server and download them to a new phone.

The company says sending contacts from one phone to another will always be free, although future services – such as storing contacts, text messages and photos –may be chargeable.
