Myriad Group acquires social networking company Xumii

Combining multiple social networks and messaging services into a single interface is becoming a must-have application. Nokia does it with the N97, Motorola’s going to do it with MOTOBLUR – and now the Myriad Group is joining in.

Myriad Group, whose software is in more than 2 billion devices, was created earlier this year from the merger of Esmertec and Purple Labs. It’s now taken over Xumii, which can integrate mobile phone contacts, social networks and instant messaging services into a single ‘social phonebook’.  Rather like Myriad’s recent Widget announcement, the Xumii acquisition is also aimed at helping the owners of mass-market mobile phones.
