New Apple iPhones set record of 9 million sales in three days

Apple says it’s sold nine million new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c smartphones within the first three days of them going on sale. The figure is a new record for Apple, although it’s also the first time the company has launched two handset models and included China in its initial launch.

More than 200 million iOS devices are now running the new iOS 7 platform, according to the company.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said “This is our best iPhone launch yet - more than nine million new iPhones sold - a new record for first weekend sales. The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
