Nokia has announced a premium smartphone that has 18 carat gold-plated highlights, a sapphire crystal for the home key and Caledonian leather on the back. It runs the latest Symbian Anna OS with a 3.5-inch reinforced glass AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera with 720p video recording, 3G HSDPA and WiFi.
The Nokia Oro is expected to retail for around 800 Euro SIM-free (£695+VAT) and will go on sale in selected countries across Europe, Eastern Europe, China and the Middle East from Q3 2011. It’s supplied with a gold-plated Bluetooth headset.
In a blog post, Gabriel Speratti, Nokia’s General Manager for Russia, said “premium products like Nokia Oro have always been best sellers in Russia. We have a large number of users who are looking for products with a build quality and superior materials that attest to their success and social standing. In some areas, possession of such premium products is the passport to being taken seriously.”
