A new study from mobile marketing and analytics firm Localytics shows that Apple’s most popular mobile phone is currently the iPhone 5, not the iPhone 5c or 5s that followed it. Similarly, the most-seen Apple tablet is the iPad 2, which was released in 2011.
The research was based on more than 100 million iPhone and iPad models processed by Localytics during August 2014.
It’s a timely reminder - ahead of the anticipated Apple iPhone 6 announcement tomorrow - that most consumers no longer upgrade every year.
According to Localytics, the iPhone 5 (launched in 2012) has a 27% share of all Apple handsets currently in use. The iPhone 5s accounts for 25%, followed by the iPhone 4s with 21%.
Meanwhile, the iPad 2 is the most popular Apple tablet, with a 29% share of all iPads. Next is the original iPad mini with 20%, then the fourth-generation iPad with 15%.
