Online security company Fortinet is investigating a 'worm' that uses text messaging to distribute itself. It collects contact telephone numbers from an infected phone and sends a text to each number, asking the recipient to download a program from a web site. The worm also transmits the sender's mobile number and handset serial number to a web server, as well as closing down task management software that could be used to disable it. It's been called the SymbOS/Yxes.A! worm (nicknamed "Sexy View") and is aimed at Symbian S60 3rd edition devices, although it may also run on other phones. Yxes.A is particularly dangerous because the SMS is sent from a friend and, when the worm installs, appears to be a valid Symbian program. [Source: FortiGuardCenter.com]
