The amount of money spent using Near-Field Communications will exceed $30 billion (£18.4 billion) by 2012, according to a new report from Juniper Research. That’s over three times higher than this year’s estimated $8 billion gross revenue.
Revenue will be driven by changes to the way people shop – including mobile coupons and NFC-equipped ‘Smart Posters’ – as well as a change to payment methods. The company also expects NFC support for existing phones to increase, with vendors creating NFC-equipped stickers and SD cards. [Press release]
