Nokia has announced a new smartphone based on the MeeGo platform. It’s called the Nokia N9 and is due to hit the shops later this year, although availability and pricing are still unconfirmed.

The Nokia N9 has a one-piece design with a 3.9-inch WVGA AMOLED display. The phone has no front-facing buttons and is designed to be entirely touch-controlled.

Specifications include an 8-megapixel camera, Dolby audio enhancement, NFC support and a choice of 16GB or 64GB storage. The N9 uses an ARM 1GHz chip.

In a separate announcement, Nokia said it will start shipping the Symbian Anna operating system on Nokia N8, E7, C7 and C6-01 mobile phones from July. Existing customers will be able to download the new OS from August.
