O2's parent demonstrates 4G mobile services

Telefónica, O2’s parent company, has provided what it’s calling the “world's first real LTE demonstration” in Madrid today. LTE (long term evolution) is the 4th generation of mobile technology – and today’s demonstration is the first time an LTE network has been connected to a working 2G/3G network. VoIP and video calling were demonstrated along with data speeds of over 140Mbps. Juniper Research has recently said that revenue from LTE mobile broadband subscribers is expected to exceed $70 billion globally by 2014.
