Ofcom has published its second consultation into the mobile sector; a document called ‘Mostly Mobile’. It says competition has driven the success of the UK mobile market, although some consumers struggle to understand pricing and services, while others suffer from poor coverage (so-called ‘not spots’). Currently 51% of all UK telecoms revenue comes from the mobile sector - and by mid-2010, Ofcom says more than half of all telephony in the UK will be mobile.
The regulator says it’ll focus on resolving outstanding issues but doesn’t plan a formal market review of the mobile sector. It sees most of its work developing in six areas: Competition, Consumers, Access, Coverage, Spectrum and Termination… and is also working to implement cross-network ‘roaming’ for emergency calls.
