Telecoms regulator Ofcom is changing the rules concerning 0870 numbers from 1st August. However, there’ll be no mandatory change to the cost of calling the numbers from mobiles and fixed-line phones; this cost can either be the same as calling ‘geographic’ national 01, 02 and 03 numbers or can be a higher ‘premium’ rate. The new rules make communications providers responsible for ensuring their customers know how much it costs to call an 0870 number. Wasn’t that the case anyway?
