Older consumers expect less mobile phone for their money

ABI Research has published a survey that compares assumptions about mobile phone prices and features with the users’ ages. The survey, which involved over 1,000 mobile phone users in the United States, didn’t ask what mobile users wanted but what they expected. Users of every age assumed they would find internet access, email, and music on phones at all prices from $50 (£35) upwards. However, they found that older people expected fewer features at every price point – with one exception: nearly half of the respondents in the 40-59 age bracket expected a touchscreen on a $50 mobile phone. Equally timely is the blog post from CCS Insight (www.ccsinsight.com/blog/?p=358): "Prepare for the Touch-Screen Backlash"
