Open-source smartphone numbers to double by 2014

Telecoms consultants at Juniper Research have estimated that the number of smartphones shipped with open source operating systems will increase from 106 million in 2009 to 223 million by 2014. The company has calculated that 60% of the current OS market is based on open-source software – although it also says that the real key to OS success isn’t open source software but how easy it is for developers to design applications and make money. They couldn’t possibly be taking about Apple, could they?   [Press release]
