Mobile browser company Opera Software has opened its Opera Mobile Store in more than 200 countries today.
The Opera Mobile Store has been created through a partnership with application marketplace platform provider Appia and offers a combination of free and paid applications for most mobile platforms, including Java, Symbian, BlackBerry and Android operating systems. Each user is shown a storefront that’s customised to their phone OS, language and currency.
Opera’s app store can be accessed via any browser and is also a featured ‘Speed Dial’ link on Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers. The pre-launch version of the Opera Mobile Store attracted more than 15 million visitors in February and achieved more than 700,000 downloads per day.
Mahi de Silva, EVP of Consumer Mobile at Opera Software, said “The launch of the Opera Mobile Store supports Opera’s core belief in an open, cross-platform mobile Internet experience by providing Opera users with an integrated storefront of mobile applications. Our partnership with Appia delivers to all Opera Mobile and Opera Mini users easy access to a wide variety of great content, on any device, all over the world.”
Opera Software has also launched the Opera Publisher Portal to help developers get their applications onto the Opera Mobile Store.
