Over half of consumers wouldn’t choose ‘green’ mobiles

An ABI Research survey of 1,000 mobile phone users in North America has shown that just 7% would be willing to pay more for an environmentally-friendly handset. A further 40% would choose a ‘green’ handset over a conventional one if price, features, and performance were equal – which means that over 50% of consumers would rather choose a non-green device even if there was no technological or price disadvantage to the environmentally-friendlier handset.

ABI Research says around 8% of handsets today come from recycled material and expects this to rise to 17% in 2014. [Press release; report]
