A survey of more than 3,000 mobile phone users from France, Germany and the UK has shown that 54% would prefer a touchscreen on their next mobile device. 38% wanted a finger-based touchscreen while 16% chose a stylus-based touchscreen to control the main user interface.

However it was a different story when the researchers from Canalys talked to users who already had a touchscreen phone. Only 47% of these people said they would choose the same type of interface on their next model; there was most loyalty amongst HTC and Apple users while Sony Ericsson had the lowest proportion of customers wanting to stick with their user interface.
