As smartphone usage increases worldwide, it’s no surprise to discover that accessories for smartphones are seeing a similar sales increase.
ABI Research has calculated that aftermarket mobile accessory sales will generate $36 billion (£23 billion) this year, with smartphones driving $20 billion of this figure. By 2017, smartphone accessories will be worth $38 billion in sales, while non-smart accessory revenues will have fallen to $12 billion.
The difference is a combination of consumers spending more on each individual smartphone accessory and also purchasing more accessories for smartphones when compared to feature phone owners. Feature phone consumers are expected to spend an average $28.17 on accessories per device, while smartphone owners will spend $56.18 on accessories for each device.
