Panasonic has announced it’ll be expanding its smartphone business into Europe from March 2012.
The flagship ‘global’ smartphone is likely to be waterproof and dustproof with a 4.3-inch organic LED screen. Full specifications haven’t been revealed, although it’s expected to be an Android device with built-in NFC connectivity. It will be produced in black and silver versions by a Panasonic factory in Malaysia.
European sales of Panasonic smartphones are predicted to reach 1.5 million units in the next financial year. By 2016, the company expects nine million smartphones to be sold in Europe, Asia, China and the United States, along with a further six devices million in Japan (of which five million will be smartphones).
