Premium rate telephone regulator reveals successes in annual report

Premium-rate telephone regulator PhonepayPlus has just published its 2009/2010 annual report, highlighting a 52% decrease in consumer complaints.

The regulator also imposed a record £5.3 million of fines in 2009/10; double the amount levied in the previous year.

Premium rate services (PRS) are those costing more than a standard UK call or text message. They're charged to phone bills (or debited from 'pay as you go' accounts) and tend to either involve phone numbers beginning 09, 118, 0871/2/3 or mobile text 'shortcodes'.
