Pyramid Research says India will overtake China in 2011 to become world's largest mobile market

India, currently the world’s second-largest telecom market in terms of total subscriptions, will add almost 590 million connections to its fixed and mobile networks over the next five years. Meanwhile, China will add around 535 million. That’s the prediction from Pyramid Research, which has recently published its latest India Intelligence Report.

Having added around 200 million new mobile subscriptions this year, India is set to overtake China in 2012 as the world's largest mobile market in terms of connection numbers. By 2016, Pyramid Research expects Indian mobile penetration to reach 118%, up from an anticipated 79% at the end of this month.
