Dr Irwin Jacobs, one of the seven co-founders of mobile technology giant Qualcomm Incorporated, is retiring from the board of directors at next year’s annual stockholder meeting. He’ll then be given the role of Founding Chairman and CEO Emeritus.
Dr Jacobs served as Qualcomm’s chief executive officer for 20 years, starting from the company’s founding in 1985. He remained as chairman until 2009. His son is currently Chairman and CEO.
Dr Paul E Jacobs, Qualcomm’s chief executive, said “As a father, university professor and business leader, Irwin inspired generations of engineers, including me, to think beyond what is possible today and pursue the technology breakthroughs of tomorrow. Qualcomm’s business model and culture of innovation are due to Irwin’s vision and leadership. He continues to inspire all of us here at Qualcomm as we pioneer the next generation of mobile technologies.
