Microsoft has announced results for the second quarter of its current financial year, covering the three months until 31st December 2012. Revenue for the quarter was up nearly 3% year-on-year to $21.46 billion (£13.59 billion), while net income fell by approaching 4% to $6.38 billion.
However, the company notes these figures have been affected by revenue deferred for a number of promotional offers.
Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, said “Our big, bold ambition to reimagine Windows as well as launch Surface and Windows Phone 8 has sparked growing enthusiasm with our customers and unprecedented opportunity and creativity with our partners and developers. With new Windows devices, including Surface Pro, and the new Office on the horizon, we’ll continue to drive excitement for the Windows ecosystem and deliver our software through devices and services people love and businesses need.”
Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, which is responsible for the Windows Phone 8 platform, said its revenue had fallen to $3.77 billion, although specific figures about the Windows Phone platform weren’t provided.
