The Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships took place yesterday in the Finnish town of Savonlinna. Hundreds of spectators watched competitors from around the world, although it was the Finns who dominated the results.
Winner of the men’s category was Finland’s Oskari Heinonen, who managed a 76 metre throw, while Netta Karvinen from Finland won the women’s event with a throw of 48 metres. A Finnish group also won the team event. The freestyle event was won by Elaine Jung from Australia.
Competitive Mobile Phone Throwing first took place in Savonlinna eleven years ago, while the first national championship was organised in Norway in 2004.
